The Daily Tidbit
Bit #7
"Publicity and sales promotion is not art -- it is
communication."
-Bob Bly
As a business, you would do well to keep the above quotation in mind. It is easy to lose sight of this fact and try to create entertainment. But your advertisements aren't supposed to be entertaining. They are supposed to convince your prospects they should spend their hard-earned dollars on your product.
Transforming prospects into paying clients does take skill. However that skill lies mostly in communicating the benefits of your product and how it will make your prospect's life better.
Fortune 500 companies try to associate their product with a feeling. You may want to accomplish the same result, however, if you don't have the multi-million dollar budget you'll find it is very difficult to accomplish.
Promote your product or service's unique benefits and you will instantly create your own niche instead of trying to align yourself with a generic feeling.
Here are two slogans:
1. I'm lovin' it.
2. Two all beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onions on a sesame seed bun.
Safe to say, you know #2 was the slogan for McDonald's Big Mac. How many of you know that #1 is McDonald's current slogan?
Use marketing to communicate to your audience. Let Hollywood pay to entertain them.
